THE G.A.L.A. EXPERIENCE:
Great artistic expression is alive and well all over the world – New
York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo… and Paramus?
“Great art in Northern New Jersey,” you ask?
I answer, “Absolutely!”
On Saturday, July 9th 2005 the Guerrilla Artists Liberation Alliance (G.A.L.A.)
established its presence with the first of many multi-media art exhibition
festivals. Painters, photographers, spoken word artists, poets, musicians
and all-around creatives were on hand to display their works and perform their
crafts.
The festival is the brainchild of G.A.L.A.’s founder; painter, Wayne
Carvajal. Carvajal’s vision was to bring together a mobile festival,
capable of being set up at any venue that could accommodate the virtual army
of talented individuals assembled for the event.
Mission Accomplished.
The festival provided the local artistic community with a sorely needed outlet
that no mere gallery, café or performance venue could provide. Attendees
were exposed to some truly innovative work that they may not have ever encountered
and, as a casual observer, I can say that the masses were indeed pleased with
what they found. The success of G.A.L.A.’s first festival has ensured
that subsequent festivals will continue to grow in size and scope, as well
as awakening the eyes, ears and minds of our community.
There’s a creative juggernaut in your backyard and you best pay attention.
